Jose Francisco Magana, Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25th, 2015 surrounded by his family at his home in West Valley after a near year-long battle with cancer. He was born on March 27th, 1958 in Margaritas, Jalisco, Mexico to Francisco Magana Duenas and Lorenza Perez Barrera. He was the third of eleven children. Jose married Ana Bertha Mendez on February 1st, 1992 and was the proud father of three children, whom he always showed appreciation for.

Jose  moved from his country of Mexico to the United States at the age of seventeen in hopes of vast opportunities. After early struggles he settled in Southern California with a few of his siblings. After nearly thirty years in the Golden State he found home with Utah in early 2007.  The Beehive State is where he realized his dreams of purchasing a home and providing for his family like never before.

Jose was a devout Catholic man that loved his Mexican heritage. He loved old Mexican films and Mariachi Music. One could often catch him singing along to his favorite music. Had a love for Las Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara, the soccer team from his home Mexican state of Jalisco. Over the years he also developed a love for America’s pastime and love opposing his son (who cheers for the Los Angeles Dodgers) by cheering for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He found great joy when his children achieved academic success; especially when his daughter Karina gained acceptance to the University of Utah and when Elizabeth was on the Principle’s Honor Roll. His Wife Ana was his right arm. They would spend hours conversing in the evenings, even after long days at work. Ana was Jose’s best friend. He truly loved his family.

Jose is survived by his beloved wife Ana; son Jose Jr; daughters Karina and Elizabeth; and family and friends that grew to love him. He is preceded in death by his sister Maria Concepion and mother Lorenza.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday September 30, 2015 at 11am at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church 3580 West 3650 South West Valley City, Utah 84119. Funeral care entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.
