Grant Andrew Fahrni,

Grant Andrew Fahrni passed away on March 21, 2015. The oldest son of Frederick A. Fahrni and Zelma Elaine Coombs, was born July 13, 1931 at the family home in Lark, Utah. So small was the new arrival, that a shoebox served as his crib for several months.

Grant served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from January 1951 to November 1954. He conducted his training at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois and served out his enlistment on the destroyer escort U.S.S. Harris and the destroyer U.S.S. Cogswell. At the time of his discharge Grant had achieved the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class. While stationed in Boston, Massachusetts, he met the love of his life, Marie Susan Lena Gallant, who he married on April 25, 1954. Upon arriving back in Utah, he obtained employment at Kennecott Copper Corporation where he eventually became a pit shovel foreman. He retired from Kennecott after 36 years of service.

Grant had many interests, foremost of which was his family, a family for which no sacrifice was too great. He also had a keen interest in Arabian Horses and was a Lifetime member of the Utah Arabian Horse Club. He was a great cook and was known for his roasted lamb sandwiches that he prepared for the yearly Lamb Day Celebration in Fountain Green, Utah. By far his greatest culinary success was his homemade salsa that became a favorite of family, friends, and neighbors.

Grant is survived by his children Grant Andrew Fahrni Jr., Judy Ann Fahrni, Steven George Fahrni; seven grandchildren; nine great-grand children; siblings Elvin Fahrni (Jeanette), Darrel Fahrni, Lois Kieffer (Alvin), Jeannine Goodfellow; and 11 nephews and nieces.
