In Loving Memory

Dear Darren and Bastian Family, I was so sorry to read of Melanie's passing. When I was your 2nd grade teacher, Darren, she was always so supportive and kind. I still have that lovely handmade apron on which she had all the students write their names. I see that you have grown into a great young man. I hope your wonderful mother's love and influence continues to bless your life. My regards to you all.

Melanie was a tremendous person who was generous to a young and experienced young man once and share his dream of helping the homeless in Utah County. The Food & Care Coalition would like to graciously thank you for her generosity over the years.

It was with great sadness to hear of your loss. We have been friends of the Laycock family for many years and know how close of a family you are. We hope you will be able to take time and remember all the good times together you have had. May Melanie's memory live forever in your hearts. I am an old school friend of Melanie's from Raymond. I remember her as being funny and classy and so smart. So many cherished memories of our high school days. I am very sorry to hear of her passing.

The picture of Melanie in the newspapers was perfect. That was the Melanie I knew from the past : SWEET, KIND, UNAFFECTED AND A KEEN SENSE OF HUMOUR. Thank you for this sweet gift. For her family and friends, there is no consolation. I remember one of her grandchildren, a little girl of about 2 years of age, standing on the pew and looking anxiously toward the entrance door, just before church started, and screaming wildly when Melanie appeared. Queen Elizabeth never had such an acclamation! Jeanne Rutishauser

We were so sorry to hear if Sister Bastian's passing. She has always been an example of grace and serenity, even at girls camp! Years ago, when our family took treats to our stake Relief Society presidency, she was so gracious and accommodating. She asked each child about themselves and was very genuine. She was an easy person to love. She will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Mrs. Bastian, but I was moved to leave a message after reading of her. May you find comfort in God who cares for you (1 Peter 5:7) and family and friends (Proverbs 17:17). Please accept my deepest condolences.

I have been the recipient of many years of kindness from Melanie and the Bastian family. When I was 18 we had a house fire and Melanie provided a place for me stay. She graciously put up with me being a nuisance and made me feel totally at home. Through all the years I knew her she was forgiving, understanding, patient, and generous. She will be greatly missed. Sorry to hear about Melanie. As kids we road together with the Laycock kids on the bus to school. That long ride every day, especially all of us that got off last, gave us the opportunity to know and love each other. I will always remember the great times we had with the Laycock kids on that bus. Love U Melanie!
