(1948 ~ 2016)
On May 11, 2016 Doug's hard fought battle with cancer ended and he was reunited with his loving parents, Fern and David Sloan. On July 20, 1948 he was born in Oakland, California but was raised in Colorado Springs. After graduating from William J. Palmer High School in 1966 he moved to Salt Lake City to pursue his passion for architecture at the University of Utah, Doug lived life to the fullest while enjoying the outdoors, hockey and golf. He is preceded in death by his parents Fern and David Sloan and best friend Al Potvien. He is survived by his family, Linda, Tessa (Zak Smith) Marc and Jay Potvien. He is also survived by many close friends including Randy Allen (Diane), Dennis "Bird" Robbins (Rondi), and Stan Traxler. A memorial service will be held in Salt Lake City's Millcreek Canyon, a place he loved. Please contact Linda at potvien3@msn.com for further details. Doug will be buried on Friday, May 20th at 11AM at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Salt Lake City where he often visited his friend. If Doug taught us anything, it's that life isn't about avoiding bruises, it's about collecting the scars to prove we showed up for it. He showed up every single day. He will be forever missed and loved. Rest in peace, Dougie.
