Lewis Arthur Nielson

Salt Lake City, Utah - Lewis A. “Bud” Nielson passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2015, while on his annual fishing trip in Alaska, one of his favorite passions for the past 35 years.

Bud was born September 26, 1928 in Provo, Utah to Della May Peay and William Maurice Nielson. He was raised in Salt Lake and began working as a young boy helping the local milk man deliver milk at 4:00 AM before school, plodding through snow up to his waist.

Bud served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Salt Lake and worked for Walker Bank, later he worked at Tracy Collins Bank as a property manager. He obtained his real estate license and eventually became a broker, investing in properties throughout his lifetime. He also obtained several patents in his name.

Bud married Julia Papa, who preceded him in death. Later he married Goldie Floor in 1983 and she passed away in May of this year. Bud and Goldie traveled the states in their motor home, spending winters in Palm Springs. Bud was Goldie’s devoted and loving caregiver for four years. He loved her dearly and upon her death, we believe he died suddenly, of a broken heart.

Bud loved to make wine with his stepson, Chris Floor. They both enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners together. For many years, they roasted a lamb and 70 pieces of Bud’s famous chicken to celebrate Orthodox Easter.

Bud was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and enjoyed bowling with the Shriner’s team. He was an active member of the Shriner’s Masonic Temple organization in Utah for many years.

Bud is survived by his brother, William Mervin Nielson and numerous nieces and nephews; stepchildren Ted (Deborah) Floor, Chris (Kathy) Floor, Andrea (Chuck) Korogi, Tina Lines and 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by sisters Loa Marie (Otto) Schrader, Dorothy May Piepho, Beverly Jean Fowles, Marlene Joy (Hercules) Ypsilantes; brothers Norman M. Nielson.

A visitation with viewing will be held in Bud’s honor at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 E., Salt Lake City on Tuesday, August 4th at 11:00 AM, with the funeral to follow at noon the same day. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 E. 500 S., SLC.
