Frank Hayden Carlton
Frank Hayden Carlton, Certified Public Accountant died March 28, 2015. He was born on January 19th, 1921 in Worcester, Massachusetts where he attended the same schools as his mother and grandmother. His advanced education included the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York and the University of Utah. During WWII, he served in the US Army Air Force as Director of Visual Education with the 3rd Air Force base at Tinker Field, Oklahoma, which included serving 26 satellite bases in the southwest. He was honorably discharged at Camp Kearns, Utah.
He married Marion Dame (later deceased) of Ogden, Utah. Together they had four children. Lee Hayden (Barbara) Carlton, Richard Nicholas (deceased) (Connie) Carlton of Kansas, Linda Weiner and Sharon Graser.
He married Judith Bowman (later deceased) of Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had two children, Janet Hickok and Nancy (Dan) DeMarco.
Mr. Carlton served sixteen years as Utah State Director of the National Society of Public Accountants. He served as Governor of District X representing Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah. The respect of his peers and his professional knowledge lead him to Washing DC, where representing the NSPA, he testified in Congress before The House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Tax Writing Committee. His comments on various tax matters have been sought and quoted in many publications including USA Today, ETC. Mr. Carlton’s distinguished service to his profession also includes serving forty-eight years as Director of the Mountain States Tax Conference for Tax Practitioners, always featuring nationally known speakers.
He spent many happy years enjoying his cabin in Fish Haven, Idaho. For over fifty years Mr. Carlton traveled extensively in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah dedicated to serving his many clients. He valued the friendships that developed over so many years. He worked tirelessly for his friends and the family he loved. Frank, an exceptional man, lived an exceptional life, a life well lived, a life fully lived...
He is survived by the love of his life Louise Millward of Salt Lake City, Utah; his sister Gretchen Swett of FL; his five children; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by one son.
Please join us to celebrate Frank’s life on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 3rd at 1:00 PM at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave and “N” Street, Salt Lake City.
