Mark William Lewis

In Loving Memory

I had the privilege of working with Mark for TSA in Las Vegas more than 10 years ago. I particularly loved his sense of humor and wit. He also had so much wisdom and experience and I learned a lot from him. He loved his family deeply and spoke about them often. This was during the time that Tony passed away and Mark decided to return to UT to devote his time to writing legislation with Cathy so other families could avoid any similar tragedy. When I spoke with him last year, he was so positive and ready to be with Tony again. I believe he is there and at peace.

Kedves Katica!

So sorry for your loss. Also sorry for our late response.

We had the priveledge of meeting with Mark at our church a couple of times last year. He seemed quite calm and at peace. We thank you for the friendship we had with you and Jerry and your family over the years.

We grew up in the Robinson, IL. area--not too far from Newton. :)

Kathy,

I am so sorry for your and our loss. Mark was a great friend and a better human being. I owe my TSA career to him; he was the one that encouraged me to apply for his Scheduling Position when he vacated it. I was always in a friendly competition with him when it came to our pay bands, always one ahead of me then, when he got his SES, I was happily left in the dust, it was well earned and deserved. We would laugh about it and he would be sure to remind me he was always better them me. LOL He once gave me a compliment that I will always remember and hold close. When I worked at HQ he said “At least you will answer the phone”. May not seem like a lot but it was an acknowledgement of the dedication and service to others he inspired in me. Of course, being USAF and he USMC I was never his equal, again LOL. I have and will continue to miss him, his spirit, since of humor, and his Leadership. May he rest in peace, without pain, and enjoy some long-desired time with his son now. We that knew and worked with are better people because of you Mark.

I have always been proud to be Mark's mom.  I feel he has always been a great warrior, not only with his illness, but also taking care of family.  He took a large part of my heart on his final journey.  My love to Cathy and his entire family.  Mom

Sending my condolences.  I worked with Mark in Salt Lake City during the roll-out of a new organization and can tell you he was instrumental in the success.  More importantly, he made those around him feel they were part of the success.

May the special memories you made together help you through this difficult time.

Kathy,

My deepest sympathies for your great loss. I came to know Mark well through our discussions of drug abuse - I also have a son who is an addict, and although he has survived so far, we have almost lost him numerous times. Mark and I had many discussions about our respective sons, and I could feel the deep pain he had at his son's passing. Mark always made time for me, and I came to know that Mark truly cared about everyone, including me. He helped me through a very difficult time at work, and although Mark and I also had many disagreements, I greatly respect him and always felt he respected me as well. I'm sure he is reuntied with his beloved son Nick now!

With deepest condolences,  Bryce

Kathy,

I want to pass on my deepest condolences to you and your family. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2.5 years I spent working for Mark at SLC. He was a good man and taught me so much. He and I formed a strong bond and I will never forget it. The thing I remember most is when he, or one of us, said something really funny, in a sarcastic manner, he would laugh so hard he would almost came out of his chair. I am sure you enjoyed many moments like that with him as well.

Mark, you will be missed by many and I'm glad that our path has crossed.  It was great having you over my house and I got to see a side that some that worked with you probably never gotten a chance to see.  G-D bless you and may you finally rest in peace.   Semper Fi Devil Dog.

Mark was our nephew and, by virtue of that, one link transcending space and time to a wonderful, remarkable family. I've texted him during his illness more than once, saying, "When you get to heaven I can hear your dad, see him concealing his smile, asking, 'What took you so long?'" Mark has, I trust, a ready response stating there were duties to attend to here, for a bit. Faithful, he lived all the way to the end. Semper Fi, Mark!

Mark was my loved nephew, the son of my beloved brother Jerry.  Mark was born the evening before Prom my junior year of high school and was always special. He was a beautiful child, much loved by his Grandpa and Grandma Lewis and all of us. We were so proud of him! He was so good to stay in touch with me and Uncle Jim during his fight with this relentless illness.  Now he is with his Dad, his son, Grandpa and Grandma Lewis and the others waiting for him.  May he rest in peace without pain but with joy at the reunion!  You are loved, Mark.  Aunt Joyce.

Dear Cathy, Leani, Nic, and Wes, What an amazing obituary for an amazing man. Even though Mark was my younger brother, many times I thought of him as my older brother because I knew he was there to lean on if I needed anything. He was such a strong man and wanted to help anyone who needed it.  Mark loved this country and the Marine Corps. He was proud of his family and we were proud of him. We knew he loved us and we will always love him. Never forgotten.
