Estella Riley Freeman
Estella was a self-sufficient, pioneer woman. She left southern Utah in 1942 at the age of 18 to travel to Long Beach, CA. There, she was a real life Rosie the Riveter during WWII and she loved it. She worked hard during the days making ammunition for Remington and spent her nights in a girls' dormitory with other young women doing their part to help the war effort.
Returning to Utah, she fell in love with and married J. M. "Mick" Riley, one of Utah's first PGA members and course architects as well as a driving force in advancing ladies golf, later becoming an inductee into the Utah Golf Hall of Fame. They had six sons together and Estella kept busy raising her lively and spirited family, much of which was on her own after Mick passed in 1964.
Estella is predeceased by her first husband Mick Riley, her second husband Paul Freeman, her son Dion Riley, and granddaughter Megan Dale Riley as well as her 7 siblings Clark Isom, Sterling Isom, Homer Isom, Francis Isom. Milda Wright, Leora Spendlove and Elaine Isom
Estella is survived by her sons Sean, Brian, Kevin, Rory and Patrick, 3 stepchildren Mike, Phillip and Barbara, thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Her selfless, determined no nonsense attitude towards life has provided an invaluable example for her family and will continue to impact them through each generation. We were blessed to have Estella in our lives as long as we did.
The Family would like to thank the staff at ResCare Homecare for the compassionate care they provided over the last year. We also wish to recognize Annette, Jolynn, Lucy and Maria for the love and kindness they personally showed that went above and beyond those of a typical patient/caregiver relationship. Additional thanks to Inspirational Hospice for their gentle and sincere service in the last days of Estella's time here with us.
