Edna Marie Gerard
She married her love Raymond L. Gerard, on February 13, 1946. Ray died January 15, 1994. Ray and Marie traveled and worked throughout the West, finally settling in Salt Lake City in 1964.
She focused her life on her family who were often separated while Ray worked on the construction of the Northwest Pipeline. There were many moves, often every six weeks, in order to keep the family as close as possible. After the pipeline, they moved many more times. Marie worked in accounting and clerical jobs. She was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her children's school clothing.
Sunday's were always church, dinner, and football. Marie always made sure that Sunday dinner was ready at half time. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame, and the University of Utah Running Utes, in that order.
She and Ray fished the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific as well as one of their favorite fishing holes Strawberry Reservoir. Ray and Marie often conspired with other family members in the creation of elaborate fishing tales. They loved to dance winning many dance contests in their youth. In their later life they belonged to a square dance club. Marie made her square dance dresses and Ray's shirts.
She was a devout Catholic and her faith carried her through the loss of Ray and her health issues.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Raymond L. Gerard, her Mother, Father, and siblings. She is survived by her two daughters Rena (Anthony) Moerman and Martha (David Malm) Gerard; grandchildren Kathryn (Shane) Duke, Donald (Dawn) Moerman, and Karen (Lance) Mullins; beloved great grandchildren Casey (Ariel) Duke, Nicholas Mullins, Dakota (Shelby) Duke, Samatha Mullins, Zacheray Moerman and Kaylee Duke; loving niece Sharon (Les) Tabor; and loving nephew Chuck (Marjorie) Friedrichs. Her words of advice to her great grandchildren are to "Remember to be good and go to school!"
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of the Madeleine Catholic Church, 331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Family urn burial will follow at Murray City Cemetery.
