Kelly Marie Wells
October 8, 1980 - July 5, 2010
Kelly was intelligent, beautiful and had a wonderful way of connecting with people. The two great passions in her life were horses and books. Kelly loved all animals and all animals loved her, especially her brother’s dog, Scooter. At a young age, Kelly begged to have riding lessons. From the very beginning she was a natural and elegant rider. Kelly was champion at several Utah horse shows and also qualified for prestigeous national competitions. Her leadership and equestrian skills earned her the position of captain of the Princeton Equestrian Team. As much as Kelly loved the competition and was a fierce and cool competitor, it was her connection with the horse that mattered most.
As horses were a true source of joy for Kelly, books were their equal. As a toddler she came to her parents with books in hand, asking for them to read "just one more story". When daddy fell asleep reading to Kelly, or inadvertently skipped a line, she woke him up and pleaded that he read it again. Years later, Kelly who grew up in a small mountain town in Utah, thrived in the challenging intellectual environment of Princeton University. Kelly possessed an amazing encyclopedic knowledge of books and authors and she had a refreshing humility in sharing that knowledge.
People were instantly drawn to Kelly. Her smile, and her kind and charismatic manner endeared her to others. Kelly had a gift of making people feel comfortable and naturally at ease in her presence. She treasured her long-time friends and left a trail of people who adored her.
Kelly was an amazing person whose life ended too soon due to heart failure. She will be missed profoundly by her parents, Patti and Bob; her sister Amy; her brother Rob; her aunts, uncle, nephews, cousins, and her many friends. In lieu of flowers, Kelly's family asks that donations be made to the Park City Friends of Animals at: www.foautah.org or P.O. Box 682155, Park City, Utah 84068
