Aileen Charlotte Clark
Our loving wife, mother, and grandmother left us on June 16th to be with the love of her life - Wayne Clark, her husband of 43 years. Aileen Newman was the oldest of 5 children - Al Newman, Alice Northway, Chuck Newman, and Mary Reopelle. Aileen and her siblings were raised in Butte, Montana where she met Wayne Clark. Wayne and his family moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah where they were originally from. Aileen missed Wayne so much that she hopped on a train and moved to Salt Lake City without ever having been there. Wayne and Aileen were married on August 20th, 1959 below the clock in the Salt Lake City County building. Aileen and Wayne knew each other from a very young age, when Aileen's family home burnt down the Clark family took them in and shared their home; they still consider themselves one family.
She leaves behind her children Bruce Clark, Tami Stephenson, and Barbara Clark; her 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She worked in the food industry for most of her life - baking and cooking; she also owned Tip Top shoe and leather repair shop with Wayne that was located in Sugarhouse. Aileen loved her grandkids and great-grandkids with all of her heart, and she was very proud of her family. Her passion was creating unforgettable moments with her family. She took her children on vacations around the country, visiting family in Montana, or seeing incredible national parks like Glacier, Yellowstone, and Yosemite National Park. She spent time with her grandchildren watching baseball - she was a huge Boston Red Sox fan and even named her dog after the famous first baseman, David Ortiz. She valued her time with her family so much, that if you were to knock on her front door while her family was visiting she wouldn't answer it. She knew all of the answers when watching Jeopardy, she loved coffee and sweet rolls, and she made sure to read every word in the Salt Lake Tribune every day.
She spent the last 8 years of her life at Saint Joseph's Villa, where their loving and supportive staff took outstanding care of her. Aileen loved the staff and her neighbors at the Villa, where she entertained them with her incredibly dry sense of humor - she was loved by everyone. Nobody was allowed to touch her head, if you even tried to she would scream so loud that you would think someone was trying to hurt her. She was very straightforward in the most loving way, she had no problem telling you if you were wrong or making a bad decision. She will be dearly missed by all of us.
Aileen has planned a Celebration of Life for her family and friends on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Starks Funeral Parlor from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. All family and friends are welcome to attend, Aileen planned this herself as a last goodbye.
