Our Mom, Lydia Elizabeth Cvar passed away on February 3rd after 99 years of dedication to her family and her faith. She was a diminutive powerhouse. The problems delivered to her by her advancing years were treated as irritations to be surmounted or tolerated, not to be dwelled upon.

She was born to Frank and Mary Vaculin in Garfield, Utah on November 21, 1917. From her younger sisters Ann (Otley) and Jean (Bouldin) she learned to take care of others. From her brothers Joe, Frank, and Jerry Vaculin she learned to take care of herself as she competed with them in play and sports. Feisty in a quiet way, her competitive nature shined in basketball, canasta, bowling, bingo, wii bowling, and any other pursuit that she thought she should win. A semi-professional ballroom dancer in her younger years, she and Dad never missed a chance to dance, especially polkas. She was a lifelong Jazz fan and had a crush on John Stockton. But the love of her life was her late husband Fred. She was married to him for 63 years. Their home became the gathering place for both close and extended family and friends. Together they made a good life for themselves and their children Charlene Furano (Tony), JoAnn Holder (Rusty), and Fred (Joan), who was her favorite son. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and her two sisters.

She raised her family to practice and honor her Catholic faith. She was a proud member of Saint Ambrose Parish for fifty-nine years, belonged to St. Ann's Guild, was a past member and officer of the Altar Society, and was once named Woman of the Year.

Now that she has gone, we will miss the Saturday bingo games, watching Dancing With the Stars, Halloween costumes, and all the family gatherings at her home. However we are glad she is at peace, and probably quite happy that in the great game of life, she has won.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, where a Vigil will begin at 7:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11th at 11:00 AM at St Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 Redondo Ave., Salt Lake City. Interment to follow at Midvale City Cemetery, 471 West 7500 South, Midvale.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
