I flew the coop today, August 24, 2016. No regrets. I had a good run around this old Apple and enjoyed the ride. I was born in Salt Lake City on June 29, 1940 to Ben and Gilda Leone, wonderful parents who raised me well. I was brought up on the west side of town and had the privilege of belonging to Rotary's Boys Club, where I learned to play all sports and was introduced to the values of character and integrity. I graduated from West High School, then went to the "U" until I got bored with school and joined the Navy. I served my country honorably during the Vietnam Conflict era. I returned to the "U" at discharge and went on to get a B.A. degree, plus some graduate work. I held positions at the Census Bureau, Univac, and Novell, and thanks to some lucky investments in real estate and stocks, I was able to retire from work at the age of fifty.

Then my wife, Jean, and I traveled the world. Literally. Over 20 cruises, and many land excursions on our own for weeks at a time. We shared a lot of laughs, adventures and met many friends. As both of us had passion for fine wine, we made sure we traveled to every great wine growing region in the world, often more then once or twice.

We had a good family life, with 5 excellent kids who've all prospered and have college degrees; all have outstanding character with values to match. But above all, there is one person, Jean, who fulfilled my life with her grace, strength, beauty, loyalty and love.

I am survived by my wife Jean; my children Scott Allen (Emily), Christine Barton (Gary), David Leone (Nidia), Daniel Coates (Hiroko) and Denise Coates (Andrew), grandchildren Britt, Christopher, Teal, Tanner, Tatum, Christian and Quincy; great-grandchildren Khaia and Aiden; sister Rosalie; and special nieces and nephews.

I was preceded in death by my parents; my sister Katie; brother Frank; and grandson Zack.

A Celebration of Life will be held in my honor on Monday, August 29th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building. A graveside service for family will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the mausoleum, 4th Ave "T" Street, Salt Lake City.

The family would like to express appreciation to Quality Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your charity of choice.
