William John Hughes

William John Hughes, age 72, died on July 02, 2016, in Murray, UT. He was born on May 31, 1944, in Battle Creek, MI to Edwin and Elizabeth Hughes. He married Paulina Hughes on Oct 01, 1970.

William served as a Sgt. in the Unites States Marine Corps. He was a forward Air Controller from 1962 - 1971, with three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a professional pilot, Ham Radio Operator, San Diego police officer and worked for the FAA as a flight examiner and accident investigator. William was an amateur genealogist, historical tourist and avid fisherman.

He is survived by loving wife Paulina Hughes; daughters Maria Gilmore, Elizabeth Johns, Deborah Hughes; grandchildren Brianna Johns, Conner Johns, Leo Johns; William Hoener, Baylee Hoener; Abigail Gilmore, Maya Gilmore, and Dillon Gilmore. He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Elizabeth Hughes.

Viewings will be held on Sunday, July 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City and then again on Monday, July 11th from 8:00 to 9:00 AM, a vigil to begin from 9:00 - 9:30 AM, with a graveside service to follow at 9:45 at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale.
