Our dear husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Frederick Wayne McFarland, passed away suddenly from a heart attack. Fred was born in Camden, Maine to Catherine Gleanzel and Lloyd Wayne McFarland, and grew up in what he always called a "Norman Rockwell" setting. He attended the University of Maine - Orono, and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, where he established lifelong friendships with a group of "brothers" that still remain close friends to this day.

Fred was kind hearted, sentimental, romantic, and dearly loved his family. He enjoyed watching sunsets and stars while exploring the Wasatch Mountains and deserts of Southern Utah. An avid outdoorsman and world traveler, he was always planning the next adventure. He retired last July after 29 years at Sheet Metal Systems and had been making the most of his retirement, logging more than 30 days skiing at Snowbird this year. He had recently returned from a trip to Moab where he hiked and played golf. Fred also enjoyed cooking and he prepared many fine meals that were shared with family and friends over the years.

Fred is survived by Paula, his wife of 29 years; daughters Beth Anne (Matthew) Parrott and Justine Anne Wilson; granddaughter Isla Anne Parrott; sister Deborah Gale; and extended family and friends - too many to name, but you know who you are and how much he cared for you.

Fred's sudden passing reminds us that life on this earth is short and tenuous. Today is the day to hug your loved ones, patch up old differences, call an old friend, and enjoy life to the fullest. We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Fred's life on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
