Vera M. Cuglietta

In the company of her loving family, Vera Cuglietta, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2016.

Born March 1, 1921 in Sunnyside, Utah, to Beneditto Colobella and Maria Tangaro Colobella, Vera spent her early years in Sunnyside.  Later she moved with her family to Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School.  In May of 1940, Vera married Albert B. Cuglietta and they remained together for over 72 years.

Employed for many years as the Office Manager for Clyde Miller, then Secretary of State, she went on to work alongside her husband as Secretary for the Local Carmen Union, (D&RG Railroad). As an active member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, she faithfully served the parish in numerous capacities.

Vera is survived by her three children: her son Joseph Cuglietta and his wife, Madalene; her daughter Maria Bsumek and her husband Peter; and, her daughter, Vera Campbell. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Peter Bsumek and his wife Katey Castellano; Erika Bsumek and her husband, Dan Hannon; Joseph Cuglietta; Natalie Brown and her husband John Brown. Her great grandchildren are Ethan Cuglietta, Liam Bsumek-Hannon and Enzo Brown. Step great grandchildren Faith Castellano, Jake Castellano and wife Faron, and step great-great grandchildren Adalyn and Savanah Castellano.

To have known Vera was to love and adore her. Warm and hospitable, she welcomed all who came through her door, making everyone feel instantly at home.  Famous for her great cooking and baking of Italian specialties.  All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss the "special" Nana soup made for them on request that would seemingly heal all wounds and ills.   Vera's kitchen was always open for good food, laughter and sage advice.  Always interested in others and full of good will, no one ever left her company hungry, sad or disappointed. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

The Family extends their appreciation to Starks Funeral Parlor for assistance in planning the service.  Special thanks also to The Cascades at Riverwalk and Inspiration Hospice for the loving care they provided over the past nine months.

Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30th at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E. Creek Road, Sandy, Utah, 84093.  The viewing with a short rosary will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 AM.  Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 4th Ave "T" Street, Salt Lake City.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Thomas More Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
