Ronald Richard Hazel, age 71, passed away on June 13, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah due to complications from Juvenile Diabetes. Born in Brooklyn, New York on Sept. 8, 1943 to Mary and Ronald Hazel.

He married Laura Farrell on May 8, 1965. Ron served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He graduated from Voorhees Technical Institute and attended the New York Institute of Technology where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. A new job brought Ron to Salt Lake City in 1976 where his career in construction spanned more than 30 years managing commercial and multi-million dollar industrial projects.

Ron enjoyed golf and fly-fishing, however, the highlight of his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. They made him so very proud. He was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan and always enjoyed bantering with his five grandsons about "their" favorite teams. "Poppy" will be greatly missed. A seat may be empty courtside, behind the plate or behind the glass but he'll always be in our hearts. Over Ron's lifetime, he was a shining example to all those who knew him for his quick wit, strength and courage in spite of his many health issues.

He is survived by his wife; son, Richard (Kori) Hazel; daughter, Peggy (Scott) Jerome; five grandsons Cole and Sam Hazel; and Zachary, Timmy and Sean Jerome; sister, Kathleen (Robert) Slater; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. His parents, Ronald and Mary, preceded him in death.

A gathering will be held for family and friends to celebrate Ron's life on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 Redondo Ave., Salt Lake City.

In lieu of flowers family suggest donations to the Utah Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in his name. http://diabetesfoundation.jdrf.com/info/jdrf/
