Kirk L Brimley passed away on November 21, 2014 in his home of natural causes. He was born to Leonard and Annie Jean Brimley on April 19, 1927 in Salt Lake City. He grew up in South Salt Lake and attended South High School where he was involved as a student body officer and where he met his sweetheart Carole Barney. Kirk married Ruth Carole Barney on September 6, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They built their home on Kentucky Avenue in Holladay where they lived for nearly 68 years. They raised 5 children, David Brimley, Denise Green (Ron), Colleen Pfeifer (Joe), Karen Guthrie (Scott), and Kristen Walton (Tyler). They were blessed with 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Kirk was an incredible father and grandfather, and was loved dearly by his family. He was quick with a funny poem or saying and always full of fun. He loved being with his family! He also had friends everywhere he went and was loved by all who knew him. His family joked he couldn't go anywhere without him running in to someone he knew.

Kirk served in the US Navy during World War II on the ship USS Kwajelein (CVE-98). He loved sharing stories from his service.

Kirks profession was in the sign business where he worked at Brimley Brothers Sign Co., the family business, for may years and in 1976 he began working for Young Electric Sign Co. Kirk received special distinction from the International Sign Association by having the association's highest award named in his honor. For his years of service, ISA's highest honor is called the "Kirk L Brimley Distinguished Service Award". He served the organization for 12 years as a member of the board of directors, vice chairman of the executive committee and special advisor. He had an amazing work ethic and retired at 80 years old.

Kirk was an avid tennis player and loved waterskiing, boating, camping, the outdoors, horses and music. Family trips to Island Park, Yellowstone and often to California were a highlight each year.

Kirk was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life. He was the 1st Bishop of the Holladay 10th ward and later served in the Stake Presidency and on the High Council of the Holladay Stake. He was managing director of the Holladay Stake Ranch in Park City for many years.

Kirk was a loving and devoted husband to Carole and it was evident to all by the way he treated her with such love and tenderness. He called her "His Love, his Life, his All". Mom preceded him in death. He waited long enough to see Mom off safely. Just as earth was a better place because of him, so is Heaven!
Kirk is survived by his sister Elaine Dabb, brother Wayne Brimley, sister Myrna Jardine, sister Sharon Ockey. Preceded in death by his wife Carole; parents Leonard and Jean Brimley; brothers Tommy Brimley and Paul Brimley; and granddaughter Kelly Pfeifer.

The family wishes to thank Wendy and Tara and all those who cared for him from Inspiration Hospice and all their dedicated service to him. Also Beehive Home Health, Star who took great care of him, as did Victoria, Alysia and others, and especially Marliss who cared for him until the end with wit, humor, and friendship!
