George Peter Fotes
Our family lost our biggest hero on March 6, 2023. Our Heavenly Father called our beloved George Fotes to be with him, and we will miss him every single day. Born on February 16, 1931, George was always there to help anyone, give support and guidance, and flash that sweet smile. His kindness was immeasurable, and he has helped so many over the years. He worked for Chevron Oil for 37 years, and made every day count. He was a guru in the Marketing department, and spent years as an amazing trainer, thus the name ‘Dr. Fotes’ when he donned his white training coat. Over the years, he proudly shared the toy Chevron trucks with our youngest family members to their delight, and all remember those gifts warmly and have kept them in honor of George. He also was a brave soldier in the Korean War, where he represented our country with dignity and perseverance. We always enjoyed when he would share his stories about that time. He made a difference.
He was an amazing father, always there for his daughter Diane, making her smile and drying her tears over the years. He taught her how to swing a golf club, dance before a prom, and do a cartwheel, and he always shared tips for car and home maintenance. He was an amazing husband, always there for Janae, and sharing years of support, laughter and love on their journey together.
George was a strong component of our extended Greek family, and was very kind to all including his ‘Greek son’ Houmies (Pete) and beautiful Chupi (Michele), and their extended families. Also, he was a faithful and loving brother to Mike and Mary, and devoted son to YiaYia and Peter George!
He was a great golfer and overall athlete, going back to his football days at Davis High School. He was such a hero and heartthrob in those Davis High School Days, and he has continued that hero legacy through his entire life. He never turned anyone away, always helped to find a solution, and was always present with his amazing spirit and love. He also loved his time on the computer, and was always up on the latest technology and wanting to be first to use it.
Sweet Hero, you will be missed every day, and we will pay tribute to you by recalling all the sweet memories. He leaves behind his wife Janae (and her daughters Amber and Chelsea) and his daughter Diane. Also, his nephews Pete, David, JD, Ryan, Russell and nieces Michele, Lisa, and their families, remain to honor his memory. His beloved first wife Donette Rees, his sister Mary, his brother Mike, mother Kanella and father Peter George all passed before him.
Sweet travels Sweet Hero and Godspeed! You will be missed and remembered every single day.
A viewing will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor on Tuesday, March 14 from 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at 11 AM at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5335 South Highland Drive, Holladay. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.
