Jeanne Powell Nixon

March 1, 1944 - October 7, 2022

On Friday October 7, 2022, our sweet, caring, and beautiful mother, Jeanne Powell Nixon, passed away surrounded by her family. She was 78 years old. Born to Cleo and Clyde Powell on March 1, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up with her older sister Judy and her twin sister Joan. She attended Granger High School and graduated from Olympus High School. She also attended the University of Utah.

After being set up on a blind date, she married Charles Richard “Dick” Nixon on May 21, 1971. Jeanne and Dick were married for over 50 years prior to Dick’s passing earlier in 2022. Together they raised two children, Jen and Jake.

As a young girl, Jeanne developed a love for animals, especially horses. When she wasn’t caring for her horses, she was loving on and spoiling her many dogs and cats. While raising her children, Jeanne spent time showing Arabian horses and won various awards with her horse, Star.

Jeanne loved spending time with her family at home and in her favorite vacation spots: Lake Powell, Island Park, Sun Valley, Mexico, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends riding horses, boating, snow skiing, hiking, attending sporting events and concerts, and celebrating birthdays and holidays. She also enjoyed entertaining; no one was a better cook or threw a better party. And absolutely no one could shop like Jeanne!

Jeanne never failed to support, celebrate, and be present with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother that took an active role in the lives of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was so proud of each of their accomplishments, and she was always there to cheer her family members on and show her love and support. Her love of family was endless, and she opened her heart and home to many. It is impossible to share all the ways and memories that made Jeanne such an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a friend to all, and creating lasting memories and traditions for her loved ones was her specialty. We will never stop missing her, and we will honor and remember her daily.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, and her sister Joan Svitak. Survived by her sister Judy (Larry) Seal, daughter Jen (Ryan) Clegg, son Jake (Abby) Nixon, stepchildren Tom (Cheryl) Nixon and Sue Nixon, grandchildren Hannah Clegg, Hailey Clegg, Quin Nixon, Jamie McClain, Phyllis Ramos, Sally Garcia, Sam Nixon, and Tess Nixon, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers: April Graves, Valeo Hospice, and the Grand assisted living for the care given to Jeanne and compassion to the family.

A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Millcreek UT 84106.
