Our beautiful Light, Ned Nerdin, husband, step-father (bonus dad), Papa, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and accomplished guitarist/vocalist graduated to the Crossroads Tour Elite on Marsh 5, 2019.
Ned was born March 24, 1950 in Salt Lake City to Rosella (Miller) and Boyd J. Nerdin, the youngest of three boys. He was raised in Bingham Canyon until he was 12 when his family moved to Salt Lake City. He attended Skyline High School, class of 1968 and the University of Utah. He served on active duty with the Army in South Korea, stationed near the DMZ. He had several jobs during his lifetime, the most recent with Packard Bell/NEC and Renegade Oil. He was a great fan of the University of Utah Utes and the Utah Jazz.
Ned married Colleen Overy January 28, 1993 and they were blessed to spend 26 years together. They attended many, many concerts and traveled to Arizona as volunteers for the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program. They also traveled with their children and grandchildren to first, the Disney Parks and then on several Caribbean cruises and most recently the Oregon coast. He takes so many beautiful memories with him of the love he shared with his family and the time spent with them.
Ned began playing guitar at age 13 and played his entire life. Music was his heart and soul, influenced most by the music of Jon Anderson and the band Yes. He played in many bands through the years, most recently with Auld’sKool, JoJo Lefty, DNR and Wilson Project. He loved his band mates!
Ned was a member of the Inner Light Center Spiritual Community for many years where he served as President of the Board of Administrators and, along with his wife, as a Minister for 10 years. He took great delight in performing wedding ceremonies. One of Ned’s greatest legacies is that of love for his fellow travelers on the road through this life. He often said he loved everyone he ever met and love was a thread woven into all he did.
Ned is survived by his wife, step-daughters Josceline (Danny) Barrow, Aimee (Jeff) Dunn, grandchildren Mackenzie (Carson) Page, Forrest Barrow, Megan Barrow, Keaton Barrow, Tyler Dunn, Miya Dunn, Jacob Dunn, brother Richard (Millie) Nerdin, many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and two fur babies, Izzy and Ellie. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry (Marge) Nerdin.
A Celebration of Ned’s life will be held on the eve of his birthday, Saturday, March 23, 2019, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Salt Lake City. All Ned’s musician friends are invited to musically honor him by bringing your instruments and/or voices to participate in an acoustic jam session. Guests are encouraged to use the valet parking on the north side of the building.
